Khelo India funding: what a school or district has to build

There is money behind school and district sports facilities again. This page covers what the scheme actually funds, what a court has to measure before it can go into an application or a tender, and the part of it we can help with.

  • Outlay₹36,441 crore
  • Period2026-27 to 2030-31
  • Centres so far1,067
  • Infrastructure approved349 projects, ₹3,176 crore

What the scheme covers

In 2026 the Union Cabinet approved a revamped Khelo India Scheme. The approved outlay is ₹36,441 crore for 2026-27 to 2030-31, which covers the scheme together with enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations.

The parts of it that involve building something are these:

  • Khelo India Centres and Khelo India Centres of Excellence, with the stated aim of a training centre in every district, taken forward through State and Union Territory plans.
  • Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas, which tie sport to school education so children are found early.
  • SAI Training Centres, National Centres of Excellence and Khelo India Accredited Academies.

As of July 2026, 1,067 Khelo India Centres had been set up and 349 new sports infrastructure projects had been approved, with a total investment of ₹3,176 crore.

We are a court builder, not an adviser on the scheme. For eligibility, application routes and current guidelines, go to your State or UT sports department and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The sources for every figure above are listed at the end of this page.

What the facility has to be built to

The measurements are not yours to choose

An application and a tender describe a facility by what it is: the sport, the playing area, the clear run-off around it, the markings and the equipment. Those numbers come from the sport’s governing body, not from the contractor.

This is where most school and district documents go wrong. A court is written down at the playing area only, the run-off is left out, and the plot turns out to be too small once the work starts. Or the marking plan follows a drawing somebody copied, and the lines do not match the rulebook.

Every court on this site is drawn to scale from the governing body’s own figures, with the source linked and the date we last checked it. Use the drawing, and the numbers in your document can be checked against the rulebook by anyone.

Where Acrlay helps

  • Checking the plot. Send the clear space you have and we will tell you which courts fit with their full run-off, before anything is committed on paper. The site planner does the same thing on screen.
  • Marking drawings. Every line dimensioned in metres, centimetres or feet, with the diagonal for squaring and a printable A4 sheet for the site.
  • Specification text. A written description of the surface, layer by layer, that can go into a tender document as the spec for the work.
  • Supply through GeM. Chandra Sports & Games, which owns Acrlay and builds the courts, is a registered seller on the Government e-Marketplace.
  • Building and resurfacing. Our own team lays the court, so one team answers for every layer.

We do not apply for grants, and we do not advise on applications. The court guide answers the technical questions behind all of this.

Questions people ask

How much has the government put behind Khelo India?

The Union Cabinet approved ₹36,441 crore for 2026-27 to 2030-31. That figure covers the revamped Khelo India Scheme together with enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations.

How many Khelo India Centres already exist?

As of July 2026 there were 1,067 Khelo India Centres, and 349 new sports infrastructure projects had been approved with a total investment of ₹3,176 crore. The stated aim is one Khelo India Training Centre in every district, taken forward through State and Union Territory plans.

Does a funded court have to follow federation dimensions?

A facility is described in the application and in the tender by what it is: the sport, the playing area, the run-off and the markings. Those come from the sport’s governing body, which is why we publish a dimensioned drawing and the source for every court, so the numbers in your document can be checked against the rulebook.

Can Acrlay help us get the funding?

No. We do not apply for grants and we do not advise on applications. What we do is the building side: check whether your plot fits the court, give you the marking drawings, write the surface specification for your tender document, and build or resurface the court.

Can the court be bought through GeM?

Yes. Chandra Sports & Games, which owns Acrlay and builds the courts, is a registered seller on GeM, the Government e-Marketplace. Many school and district purchases go through that route.
