Kho-kho ground drawing, every line measured
The 27 × 16 m field with a free zone at each end, the posts, the 30 cm central lane and the eight 35 cm cross lanes.
- Playing area
- 27 m × 16 m
- With run-off
- 29 m × 18 m (1 m on every side)
- Surface to build
- 522 m², court and run-off together
- Square check
- Both diagonals of the court must read 31.385 m. If they differ, the court is out of square.
- Played on
- On a level ground, outdoors or indoors.
- Lines
- The central lane is 30 cm wide and each cross lane 35 cm, across the full width of the field.
- Posts
- Two smooth posts 1.20 m to 1.25 m high and 0.09 m to 0.10 m across, at the middle of each free-zone line.
- Cross lanes
- Eight, 0.35 m wide. The first is 2.55 m from the post; the others are 2.30 m apart.
- Central lane
- 0.30 m wide and 24 m long, post to post.
- Free zones
- 1.50 m deep at each end, across the full width.
- Clear space
- The rules we checked do not set one; the drawing allows 1 m.
How to mark a kho-kho ground
- Fix one end line. Stretch a string line 16 m long between two pins.
- Square the corner with 3-4-5. 3 m along the end line, 4 m out along the side; when the gap reads exactly 5 m, the corner is square. Run the side line out to 27 m.
- Check both diagonals. Each must read 31.385 m. If they differ, move the corners before marking any line.
- Mark the inner lines.
- Free-zone line: 1.50 m from the end line; the post stands at its middle.
- Central lane: 0.30 m wide, 24 m post to post.
- Cross lane: 0.35 m wide; 2.55 m from the post to the first, then 2.30 m apart.
- Mark to the right edge. The rules we checked do not say which edge of a line the measurements are taken to. Agree it with your association or referee before marking, and keep it the same for every line. Mask both sides of every line with tape before painting.
